Last fall, the department hired temporary employees as part of a pilot project launched at its collections facility in Ely. Workers tested the Department’s infrastructure and technology by doing data-entry from a remote location. Revenue Commissioner Ward Einess said the project was more than a success – it was another first for Minnesota. “The Ely project marks an important milestone for the Department of Revenue,” said Commissioner Ward Einess. “Each year, we struggle to retain the more than 200 seasonal employees needed to meet demand. This pilot project proved that we can utilize existing facilities and infrastructure outside the Twin Cities metropolitan area during off peak hours to conduct certain types of seasonal work. ” Ten temporary positions will now be converted to seasonal status and employees will work several months each year at the department’s existing facility. As seasonal workers, they will be entitled to vacation and sick leave benefits. Employees hired for the pilot project who choose to become seasonal will have their time as temporary employees count toward their six month probation period. ### |
